Ms Mthembi Joined Mcanyi Group as a Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in November 2025. She is a senior executive responsible for overseeing and managing all compliance-related activities in the entire organization and its subsidiaries. Her role is a strategic function that goes beyond mere regulatory oversight to include shaping ethical culture, managing enterprise-wide risk, and advising the directors on critical decisions.
Key Responsibilities
The CCO’s duties are diverse and cover various aspects of the business across different jurisdictions:
- Strategy and Policy Development: Developing and implementing a cohesive, group-wide compliance framework, including policies and procedures tailored to different business units while maintaining a consistent global approach.
- Risk Management: Conducting regular, enterprise-wide compliance risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities (e.g., third-party risks, data privacy, ESG issues) and developing proposals to manage and avoid them.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Overseeing compliance monitoring and ensuring prompt reporting of the compliance status and any non-compliance issues to the Group board and relevant regulators.
- Training and Communication: Educating and training staff across the group on legal updates, compliance guidelines, and the company’s code of conduct, ensuring a strong “culture of compliance”.
- Liaison and Advisory: Acting as the primary liaison between the organization and regulatory bodies, while also serving as a trusted advisor to management and department heads on regulatory impacts on business decisions.
- Issue Resolution: Establishing clear guidelines and disciplinary measures in responding to potential compliance breaches to ensure recurrence is avoided.

Personal Statement
She is an admitted attorney in good standing with the LPC and has achieved a successful outcome in 90% of contested cases, and has done pro bono work referred by the LPC from time to time, and in deserving cases for individual clients, and is an all-rounder in legislation relating to the practice of law in general. She served her articles of clerkship with the firm Mohlaba Moshoana Incorporated in Pretoria in their litigation department until 1998. Was admitted as an attorney in June 1998 and was offered a position as a professional assistant. She took the position and worked for a period of 3 months, during which period she learned the ability to craft constructive arguments and an in-depth knowledge of the practice of law in general when assisting senior attorneys with pre-trial research and analysis of relevant authorities. Thereafter, she established the firm Tintswalo Mthembi and Associates later in September that year, and practiced third-party law extensively, and was on the panel of Alexander Forbes on their medical third-party claim department.
